Q.E.D. is a short trip from Manhattan on the N train to Queens. Just stay on all the way to Astoria–Ditmars Blvd at the end of the line, and walk a couple of blocks west on 23rd Avenue. (The W train does not run on weekends.)

Kyle Thiessen emerges from creative hibernation every few years to renew his "artist card" by phoning in the bare minimum. Previous endeavors include a 2011 YouTube parody—the hastily-researched Fake Month at the Museum—as well as a short film in 1999 that won him a ticket to the Golden Globe Awards, where he peed next to John Lithgow.

In addition to YouTubing and peeing, Kyle has spent his adult life as a caricature artist, an IMAX projectionist, and a corporate PowerPoint designer for a multinational conglomerate of high-tech weapons systems and golf cart manufacturers. Until he fills the hole in his resume where "zamboni driver" should be, he'll be hard at work on the perfect Die Hard screenplay and occasionally tweeting @lazycartoonist.

William Shunn hosts and produces the Line Break Reading Series. He is the author of the religious true-crime memoir The Accidental Terrorist, and his poetry is forthcoming in both Analog and Asimov's. Robert J. Howe has published poetry in 50 Haiku, and has poems forthcoming in The Dawntreader and Main Street Rag. His short fiction has appeared in Salon.com, and The Flatbush Review, the magazines Analog, Electric Velocipede, and Black Gate, and the anthologies Newer York and Happily Ever After. His haiku series, "Bury My Heart at Olduvai Gorge," was part of the traveling exhibition Knowing Limits, a traveling exhibition shown in U.S. national parks.

Eden Robins lives in Chicago and will give you a very stern look if you speak disparagingly of the Midwest. She writes short fiction, long fiction, short essays, op-eds no one wants, and comedy videos for Big Pharma. She also co-hosts Tuesday Funk, a monthly live lit show in Chicago that she inherited from William Shunn, and has read her work aloud at many other pithily named events, as well as various hotel conference rooms at sci-fi conventions. We're delighted to announce that host William Shunn's new short story, "Last," has just appeared at Seat14C.com, an online science fiction anthology and writing competition presented by XPRIZE.

XPRIZE, as you may know, is a non-profit organization that designs and manages public science competitions intended to encourage technological development that could benefit all of humanity. (No small goal, there.) One of their latest initiatives is a push for science fiction stories that promote a more hopeful future than the dystopian visions that seem to be so popular.

To that end, XPRIZE has launched Seat14C.com, a site that is both an online anthology and a fiction contest. Thirty well-known science fiction writers have all contributed short stories about the passengers on a transatlantic flight that departs Tokyo in 2017 but somehow lands in San Francisco in 2037. The contributors list includes names like Margaret Atwood, Hugh Howey, Nancy Kress, Bruce Sterling, Charlie Jane Anders, Paolo Bacigalupi, and Charles Yu, whose stories were written to highlight the amazing positive effects that twenty years of scientific advancement could have on a city like San Francisco.

As for the contest, XPRIZE invites readers to submit their own stories about the passenger in Seat 14C. The winner, to be chosen by members of the XPRIZE Science Fiction Advisory Council, will receive round-trip airfare to Tokyo, four nights in a four-star hotel, and $1,500 in spending cash, besides having his or her story published on Seat14C.com.

Monica Wendel's first book, No Apocalypse, was selected by Bob Hicok as the winner of the Georgetown Review Press Poetry Manuscript Contest. She is also the author of three chapbooks, most recently English Kills, which won the Autumn House Press Coal Hill Review Chapbook Contest.

She holds an MFA from New York University, where she was awarded Goldwater and Starworks teaching fellowships, and is an assistant professor of composition and creative writing at St. Thomas Aquinas College. She has served as the writer in residence at the Jack Kerouac Project of Orlando, Florida, and Fire Island National Seashore.

Amanda Claire Buckley is a self-described Troubadour. Her writing, music, and theatrical adventures have taken her to Vermont, Chicago, Italy, DC, Philadelphia and New York City. She was a company member with Off-Color Comedy and produced readings, workshops, and talks for the Chicago Writers Conference. She was awarded the National Storytelling Network's Next Generation Scholarship in 2015. She's currently pursuing her MFA at Sarah Lawrence College.
